Mysteries and Secrets – Day 15

1 Corinthians 2:7

No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

The Thought

Paul had been well known for being vehemently opposed to those who followed Jesus, but once converted, he spread the “good news” with just as much energy and enthusiasm. In his letter to the Galatians he speaks of this, acknowledging that they had probably heard of the way he persecuted believers. For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it (Galatians 1:13). Many people did not trust what Paul said because he seemed to have “changed sides”, they took a lot of persuading. It can be the same for a new convert today, leaving a sinful life, or giving up on another religion. For those converted it can mean losing friends, family and financial support.

On saying that God’s wisdom was a mystery, Paul was saying that nothing was obvious, and only those who searched the scriptures for the truth would understand.

In fact, once converted, Paul had discovered that God’s plan was hidden all the way through the Old Testament scriptures which he knew so well.

The glory Paul speaks of here is that of the Jewish nation who should have been so proud to have been God’s chosen people, the nation that birthed the long awaited Messiah. Sadly they had a limited understanding of the scriptures, and the secrets and mysteries contained there. Many people still do, not only Jews, but Christians too.

Action

Praise God today for organizations like “Jews for Jesus“, who spread the gospel news. Pray for any Jewish people you know who have not understood who Jesus is.

Read 1 Corinthians 2 today, and pray for God to increase your knowledge and understanding of the scriptures and their meaning for you today. Ask Him to reveal to you His wisdom in what you read this week in your Bible.
