Mountains – Day 30

Revelation 21:10

And He carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God.

The Thought

This is the last Biblical mention of a mountain, although there are many “mountain verses” that we haven’t looked at. This one is appropriate for the last day of our thoughts about mountains.

After the destruction of the whole world as John saw it in his visions, we have the end of the story, and this story ends well. It takes two full chapters to describe, and we can imagine that John found doing that quite difficult.

This great and high mountain seems to be the highest place on the earth, from which John saw Heaven descending. Jesus asked us to pray that His Father’s kingdom would come on earth (Matthew 6:10), and this seems to be the literal answer to that prayer.

The Holy City in the centre of the “new world” can only be experienced by true believers; by only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 21:27). Another qualification of entry is given in the following chapter (the last in the Bible). Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city (Revelation 22:14).

That verse is followed by a description of those who will not be there!

Action

Pray today for the people you see as you go through your day. Pray that each one who does not yet qualify for Heaven by the standards given in this vision (Revelation 21:27 and 22:14), will hear the good news and understand their need of the Salvation that only Jesus can give.

Read the last two chapters of the Bible and be encouraged by all that awaits believers in the near future.
