Jonah – Day 16

Jonah 3:1-3

Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.” Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh.

The Thought

The last line of these verses makes me smile! No more rebellion on Jonah’s part, He had learned his lesson! The command of God was very clear. He did not ask Jonah if he had changed his mind, nor did He ask if Jonah could find time to go to Nineveh. He just told him to go. And Jonah went! No more the reluctant prophet, at least for the moment!

Sometimes we know the Lord has spoken and we must obey. Other times it is not so clear. This was very clear to Jonah, and after all he had suffered as a result of his disobedience. Jonah didn’t hesitate in obeying God the next time He spoke. We don’t know exactly the place where the fish left Jonah, but the boat he had taken was on its way to Tarshish which is on the Mediterranean sea, and Nineveh is on the east of the Tigris river, at least 6OO kms as the crow flies. So it is possible that Jonah had a very long journey and plenty of time to reflect on what he had just experienced. But then it is also possible that the whale carried Jonah back to his starting point!

Anything is possible with God!

Action

Praise God that “anything is possible” for Him. He is the God of impossible situations. Reflect today on some of the miracles of Jesus who demonstrated that “God of the impossible” many times.

Pray that you will have an ear to hear and a heart to obey the Lord’s commands, even if what He is asking you to do seems impossible or difficult.
