Idols – Day 30

Revelation 9:20

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood — idols that cannot see or hear or walk.

The Thought

This must be one of the saddest verses in the Bible. John tells us what will happen at the end of time as we know it. Some will repent, but others will not, they are influenced too much by the demonic powers who are out to destroy all believers.

It is so important that we tell others about the saving grace of Jesus, and stress the fact that God has made it more than clear throughout His word that He will not tolerate idolaters. He wants to be the centre of our lives. That sounds egotistic, and it would be if God were a man, and not the greatest force in the universe.

If God had not sent His Son to tell us the truth and go to the cross for us, we could doubt His word. But Jesus not only went to the cross, but came back to life, in order to prove that His Father was the Greatest Power in the universe!

The closing verse of this chapter adds to our sadness by including another list of those who will not join us in Heaven: Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts (Revelation 9:21).

Action

Read Revelation 9 slowly and prayerfully.

Pray today for the promised revival to come and hit your area, and the areas where your friends and family live. Pray for churches everywhere to see the need to take God’s word to heart.

Rejoice if you are in a good church that tells the truth. If not pray even more seriously about whether you stay there and pray for change, or if The Lord has somewhere else for you to go.
