Idols – Day 29

Leviticus 19:4

Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves.

The Thought

The book of Leviticus is not the easiest book to read. It seems to be just one rule after another, with very few interesting stories! Few of us have read all 27 chapters, and even those who have would not say it is very interesting or relative to today, but much of it can still be pertinent for our 21st century society. Today’s verse is one of those rules. God has not changed, and His rules haven’t either.

That is one of the basic messages throughout the Bible. Hundreds of years after the giving of the law in Mount Sinai the writer of Hebrews told us using the present tense:- Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He has never changed, and His rules haven’t either!

A common problem today is that if enough people decide that a certain sort of behaviour is OK, then many others follow suit, and before we know it there are groups of like minded people all over the world committing the same sins.

Much of the world (even many with a Christian education), have forgotten God and His rules, and the enemy is thrilled to see much of what is happening in our local society, but God remains the same, His word lasts forever, and He will have the last word.

Action

Think about God having the last word as you go through your day today, and pray for the people you see and hear on the news media. For them to be convicted of what is right and wrong.

Pray for honest reporting by journalists, and sensible rules to be made by politicians.

Read Leviticus 19 and pray about the things which are relevant that you see around you in your community today.
