Idols – Day 28

Daniel 9:26-27

The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

The Thought

We know that God closed the mouths of the lions when Daniel was thrown in their den because he would not stop praying to Father God (Daniel 6). Previously, and for the same reason, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had survived being thrown into the fiery furnace (Daniel 3)! What a mighty God we serve!

Later, when Daniel talks about the end of life as we know it, and about the end of time, it gets complicated and difficult to understand. We can see that there is going to be some sort of construction, an idol or building that is referred to by the angel talking to Daniel, saying that armed forces will set up an abomination (Daniel 11:31).

It is clear all through our Bibles that idols are an abomination to God!

There is an encouraging verse later in Daniel:- At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered (Daniel 12:2).

Hallelujah! Praise God for His plans for deliverance whatever the enemy prepares.

Action

Recognise in your prayers today the importance of commitment to Christ and reassure yourself that your name is in that book!

Read some of Daniel 11 & 12 and pray for protection as we approach the time when these things will happen.
