Idols – Day 22

Revelation 22:15

Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

The Thought

This is the last mention of idolatry in our Bibles, making very clear that those who worship idols will not be welcomed into Heaven. Each of the categories in this verse is a form of idolatry coming under the title of dogs, and each one is a form of making the person themself the idol!

Those who practice magic arts are looking for a way to control others by their demonic powers.

The sexually immoral are also going after their own desires, and making idols of their own bodies, often using them for financial gain.

There are so many different reasons for a person to murder someone else, but here are no exceptions to this commandment from The Lord (Exodus 20:13). It is another form of idolising self: What I want to do to another person because he or she has not done, or said, or been to me what I expected!

The last reason in this verse today for people not being allowed to enter Heaven is those who live with lies (falsehood). Another of the commandments covers this:- You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour (Exodus 20:16).

All these things are demonic and the only way to fight them is with prayer, submitting our will daily to that of The Lord.

Action

Think about these things today as you go through your day. Are you surrounded by idolaters or believers? We must witness to them all.

Read Revelation 22 and be encouraged, that when Jesus returns for His bride, you will be a part of that crowd invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.

Pray for those you suspect will not be there, and praise God that it is He who decides and not us.
