Idols – Day 19

1 Corinthians 6:9

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men.

The Thought

This verse is guaranteed to bring conflict in almost any conversation with non-believers today, and sadly many people who are believers too. The same sentiment is expressed at the beginning of the letter to the Romans, written by Paul. We will look at that tomorrow.

Since the beginning of time, the devil has been using the sin of self importance to spoil the relationship between humans and their loving God who created them. It seems to be in the basic nature of people right from birth, to think of self first. Every child has to be taught to share things with their siblings and friends. Every one of us has a tendency to see something somebody else has and want to have the same, or something similar.

That all began when the serpent tempted Eve in the garden of Eden. She saw the fruit and what she desired became the most important thing for her at that moment. She made an “idol” of herself, totally forgetting what God had said.

How many of us have seen something someone else possesses and wanted something similar for ourselves, a piece of clothing, a car or piece of furniture, even sometimes their life partner! Giving in to those desires becomes idolatry, and according to the reading today, these people will not inherit the kingdom of God!

Action

Psalm 145:8 tells us The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

Read that psalm of praise today and remind yourself of God’s grace and compassion several times during your day.

Pray for those you know who have been seduced by satan to disobey God’s commands, and pray for revival with many conversions.
