Idols – Day 18

Numbers 33:52

Drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places.

The Thought

These were very clear instructions for the young Jewish nation who were about to enter their promised land. At the end of a 40 year long journey, they were given a geography lesson about the journey they had travelled since leaving Egypt. Very few of them had lived in Egypt, most had been born during their desert wanderings. Consequently they knew nothing of city life, and what it meant to actually live in a building; their only experience was life in tents. Even God appeared to live in a tent, and had a special Tent of meeting where the priests went to minister to Him, and offer the necessary sacrifices (Exodus 29).

It seems harsh to us today to be told by God to drive people out of their homeland, but this land was to be given to Israel, that had always been His plan. It still is!

The Lord went on to tell them But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live. And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them (Numbers 33:55-56).

There are many people today who can share stories of God providing their land or their house, school or church. He is still in the business of providing for His people and helping us make the right decisions about every aspect of life.

Action

Praise God today for some of your own life experiences that prove to you that He is Sovereign.

Pray for Israel, that those who are Jewish by name only will have a revelation about who God is and what He can do, and pray that they will turn wholly back to God.
