Idols – Day 12

Exodus 20:1-3

And God spoke all these words. “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me.”

The Thought

As we have already seen, very early in the history of Israel, God made it very clear that there were to be no idols found amongst His people, and that He was the only god they should serve. In fact He was, and still is the only one worth serving.

He is The God of love and compassion.

This first commandment was given by God to Moses on mount Sinai, and we looked at some of it on day 1 of this study, but let us consider it again today.

God had miraculously rescued His people from slavery in Egypt, protecting them from the plagues, and causing the army of Pharaoh who were pursuing them to drown in the sea which had, to their amazement, opened up to allow His chosen nation to leave slavery, and move towards success, miraculous provision and a better life.

Our Heavenly Father still does the same thing for His people today, because He never changes. He never has bad moods, or sulks or is too busy to listen to our prayers.

Hebrews 13:8 tells us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Action

Read Hebrews 13 today and be encouraged to offer to God a sacrifice of praise (verse 15), thanking Him for all He has done for you.

What an amazing God we serve! Take time today to thank and praise Him for who He is, and for all He has done and continues to do in the lives of His people.
