Haggai – Day 28

Haggai 2:18

From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid. Give careful thought.

The Thought

If God is giving importance to a specific date, then it had to be important for His people too! They knew what He was referring to:- the day when the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid. He was clear that they must remember that date. But they did not know why! Tomorrow’s verse will tell us why.

Certain dates can remind us of life changing days; a marriage, a birthday, the death of someone close, or the date you became a Christian, the beginning of a new adventure.

Some of us are more inclined to remember internationally or nationally important dates. Many of us across the world will remember Queen Elizabeth II’s recent anniversary of her 70 year reign. Quite an achievement!

In our verse for today Haggai’s prophetic word from the Lord is noted on a specific date, which they were to remember as the day they had a change of heart. The equivalent date in line with our calendar is December 18th 520BC.

One of the first mentions of that day is worth remembering. Genesis 2:17 where we read you must not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.

Action

Think today about dates that are important to you, and why.

Thank God for the important dates He has written for you in His agenda. Thank Him for the ones you already recognise, and all the future ones He has planned for you. Dare to tell Him some of your dreams for the future.

There may be bad memories too, pray that Jesus will heal you of those. (That may need others to pray with you for inner healing.)
