Haggai – Day 23
Consecration does not rub off! Because you mix with church attending friends, does not mean you will pass the righteousness test when trying to get into heaven. Even attending church every week of your life does not guarantee a place in Heaven. Only a personal relationship with Jesus can do that.
Haggai 2:11-12
This is what the Lord Almighty says: Ask the priests what the law says: if someone carries consecrated meat in the fold of their garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, olive oil or other food, does it become consecrated?
The priests answered, No.
The Thought
These verses from our Old Testament prophet seem to be asking a riddle! But for the priests it was a clear Yes/No question, and they knew what the law said. Like the priests, believers in our day need to be sure of what God’s word says.
Part of what the Lord is trying to get across here, is that consecration does not rub off, but bad habits do!
Because you mix with church attending believing friends, does not mean you will pass the righteousness test when trying to get into heaven. Even attending church every week of your life does not guarantee a place in Heaven. Only a personal relationship with Jesus can do that.
It is interesting that God didn’t tell the people to ask their friends or family this question, but those responsible for “religion”!
Apparently the priests knew what the law said and they gave a fairly quick answer. But that was only half the riddle, we’ll read the end tomorrow.
Action
Do you enjoy riddles, or unanswered questions, or do they frustrate you?
Ask yourself today who you would go to for spiritual answers. Maybe you try to find answers yourself through prayer and Bible reading, and that is not a bad thing, but discussion with other believers is always good. They don’t have to be qualified pastors or teachers, just people who pray and have a relationship with the Lord.
Finding answers in a cell group is always good, and can be a lot of fun too.
