Gifts & Giving – Day 8

What amazing rewards for those who have been generous with the gifts they have received. I do not believe we are talking here about finance so much as using all our gifts to bless others. Those who have done worthwhile things on earth and honoured God will be honoured themselves.

Psalm 112:9

They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn (dignity) will be lifted high in honour

The Thought

What amazing rewards we see in this verse for those who have been generous with the gifts they have received. I don’t believe we are talking here about finance so much as using all our gifts to bless others.

What does it mean to read that their righteousness endures forever?

Is it possible that what we do on earth is really recorded somewhere? Could it be that Heaven really is recording everything we do?

These thoughts remind me of the verse we looked at on day one. A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. (Proverbs 18:16)

Our good deeds (and our bad ones) are watched by the unseen angelic presence, who we can assume are recording their observations, and on the day of judgement when the books are opened (Daniel 7:10 and Revelation 20:12) we will all be surprised at what has been recorded, and the results of our behaviour on earth are shown before the millions gathered.

The last part of today’s verse tells us that those who have done worthwhile things on earth and honoured God will be honoured themselves. Can you imagine what that might look like?

Action

Take some thought today to ask yourself if you stand a chance of being in that group who will be honoured. Think about the rewards you might receive.

Do you even believe in Heaven and earth? In angels?

Can you imagine that giving a few coppers to a beggar can have such amazing results?

Read psalm 112 and be blessed. 9 out of its 10 verses are about rewards for being obedient to God’s laws.
