Gifts & Giving – Day 28

2 Kings 20:5

“Go back and tell Hezekiah the ruler of My people, “this is what the Lord, the God of your father David says: “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.

The Thought

Hezekiah was king of Judah. 2 Kings 18:1-8 tells us that he “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” The chapter continues with the important events of his life and we read at the beginning of 2 Kings 20 that he became ill, Isaiah confirmed for him that he was dying. But Hezekiah was not ready to leave the earth, he prayed, and verse 3 tells us that he was in tears.

God heard his prayer and told the prophet Isaiah to go and let the king know that his prayer had been heard and he would live a further fifteen years.

What a gift that was from God, but not only did Hezekiah get the promise as a gift, he also received a sign that could not be denied.

The sun reversed its path! What an amazing gift that was. Nothing, (so far as I know) has happened like that since. But God changed time, just to confirm to this king that his prayer was answered! We don’t know how far ten steps (2 Kings 20:10) was. But even if they were small steps, it was certainly a noticeable distance and would considerably prolong the day.

Action

Thank God today for the gifts of answered prayers that you have seen in your life, or that you have heard about in the lives of others.

Thank Him too that nothing is impossible for Him.

At this time of giving, (at least in much of the western world) praise God that He has given you LIFE.
