Gifts & Giving – Day 15

The constant message of Paul was the fact that Jesus gave Himself for us. When He became a baby on earth, that was not the beginning of Jesus. His Spirit had been alive forever and was part of the heavenly discussion about how to save the fallen world.

Titus 2:13-14

Jesus Christ who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.

The Thought

One of the things we must look at in our study on gifts and giving is the life of Jesus. As our verse today says He “gave Himself for us”. What does that mean for you and me today? The sentence above tells us that we should be His people eager to do what is good. Jesus was the example of perfection to follow in our daily lives. He is the best gift ever given and we as His people need to share that gift around us.

Titus was a colleague of Timothy and history tells us that these two young disciples of Paul went to Crete together with him on a preaching tour and Titus was left there to pastor the young church they started.

This letter is very similar to the first letter to Timothy, encouraging both young men to be reliable leaders, teach sound doctrine and to always be found doing good to those around them. Lessons we could all pay attention to today.

Such a concept is hard for our finite minds, but the verse today reminds us that Jesus gave Himself.

Action

As you go through your day today, remind yourself regularly to thank Jesus for the gift of Himself for everyone you see. Pray that each one will realise the truth.
