Gifts & Giving – Day 12

Revelation 22:12

Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

The Thought

This verse follows on well from yesterday’s verse, even though they are far from each other in the Bible. But it is the same person speaking!! And He hasn’t changed His message!

Sometimes I have to be reminded that God is an all seeing God. He really does not miss anything. The books that will be opened in Heaven on judgement day will have recorded all the good and bad things we have done. As well as much we think of as being in-between! (Daniel 7:10 & Revelation 20:12)

It is hard for most of us to think of life in Heaven and judgement day because it is so far from our daily lives in every way. We cannot imagine it, and so we don’t give it much thought. Maybe we should.

Think for a moment about a child who has been promised a treat if he/she does something specific. I could give lots of examples here of how we persuaded our children to do things they didn’t want when they were young. This verse makes me think of those things. They eventually learned to discipline themselves in most of those things.

Action

Think about discipline in your life, not as a punishment for what you have or haven’t done, but as bringing order into some of the things you have been intending to do, especially for others. Whether it is a prayer, a word of encouragement or a practical gift for someone you know who is feeling down, or a financial gift to someone needy.

Pray for God to guide you in what to do and for whom. Be it a beggar on the corner of the street or a rich looking neighbour with family problems.
