Gideon – Day 8

Judges 6:15

Look at my whole family. It’s the weakest one in Manasseh. And me? I’m the least important member of my family.

The Thought

Gideon reacts to being chosen by the Lord by giving all the excuses as to why he cannot do what God is calling him to do. He tells God his situation, as though the God who sees all and knows all, didn’t have these facts.

Don’t we do the same? We spend a lot of our prayer time telling God our complaints and our situations in detail. Do we think He is blind and deaf?

We often live as though we have forgotten that He knows everything, sees everything we do, and hears every conversation. He even knows what we say before we say it!

The reason Gideon gives for not being able to do what he is being asked to do, is the very reason why God has chosen him. He doesn’t choose us for our abilities, but for our inabilities. He does this so that we rely on His strength and not our own. I think as I write that, of Rheinard Bonke, a world renowned German evangelist. When God first called him to speak in his home church, he suffered from a terrible stammer. But when he preached he didn’t!! Only God can do that sort of thing.

Gideon was the youngest son in a small clan descended from one of Joseph’s two sons. He felt unimportant and he was, in the eyes of the world around him. But with God ALL things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

Pray for the Lord to use you and ask Him to help you believe you can do all things through Him (Philippians 4:13), in spite of who you are in the world we see. Ask for His help in being obedient.

Praise Him for His wisdom in choosing who He chooses and for His will which will be accomplished in His time.
