Forgiveness – Day 7

Ephesians 1:7-8

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us.

The Thought

These verses early in the short New Testament book of Ephesians are bubbling with enthusiasm from Paul. He is trying his best to raise the same enthusiasm in his readers.

Because the former Saul had changed from being a hard-line Pharisee to Paul the on-fire Christian, he completely understood all that Jesus had done for him. He understood forgiveness once he realised how wrong he had been, and how much he needed to be forgiven by the One he thought he knew, but didn’t know at all!

That is why he could write the book of Philemon, which focuses on forgiveness and which we looked at during the first 3 weeks of this month (February 2023).

As part of his introduction of his letter to the church in Ephesus Paul wrote: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).

Paul’s enthusiasm can be felt in the words he wrote.

Action

Ask yourself today if you really understand what forgiveness is, and if your life demonstrates the same enthusiasm as Paul. Does your church encourage enthusiasm among the members?

What do you think life would look like if we as believers were all living in the position of receiving every spiritual blessing in Christ?

Read the first chapter of Ephesians and feel Paul’s enthusiasm for the truth of Jesus. How many spiritual blessings can you find there?

Pray that Jesus will help you to understand more and experience more of those blessings in your own life, so that His love for others may be made evident through you.
