The Fig Tree – Day 3
The Lord God made clothes. Will we ever learn that our petty efforts to cover ourselves or to cover our wrong actions are always inadequate. But God provides for our EVERY need. He is the only One who can do that. Jesus died to cover our sins with His blood.
The Lord God made clothes from animal skins for the man and his wife and dressed them.
The fig leaves which Adam and Eve used to cover their nakedness were not adequate. Will we ever learn that our petty efforts to cover ourselves or to cover our wrong actions are always inadequate. But God provides for our EVERY need. He is the only One who can do that. Jesus died to cover our sins with His blood. More than that; He wiped them all away, He eliminated them completely (Romans 5:19).
In Old Testament times animal sacrifices had to be made to the Lord to ask for forgiveness of any wrong doing. The book of Leviticus, where we read the law of Moses as he heard it direct from God, is full of those rules and regulations. But thousands of years after Adam and Eve and the law of Moses, Jesus provided for our need of forgiveness when He died in our place. Do we really understand all that means for us? Do we really understand the freedom we have because of Christ’s death on the cross?
In Romans 4:7 we read of our sins being covered over with a robe of righteousness. Saint Paul, who wrote the letter to the Romans, is quoting Psalms 32 where David begins with these words “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are covered”.
Read Psalm 32 for yourself and rejoice that your sin is not counted against you. You may think that your sins are small, but remember that God has no measuring stick. Sin is sin, and Jesus died for our total forgiveness.
Ask the Lord if there is any unconfessed sin in your life; any wrong attitudes, any wrong ideas. Ask Him to help you recognise and get rid of those things.
Rejoice today in the fact that the Lord knows everything about you, and He still loves you. Hallelujah!
