Esther – Day 25

What happened was a prophetic act. Haman would be humbled and Mordecai raised to a higher position. It is interesting here that Zeresh, whether she knew it or not was prophesying the downfall of her husband. She also recognised that the Jewish people were blessed and protected by their God.

Esther 6:13-14

Afterwards Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered in grief, and told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him – you will surely come to ruin!” While they were still talking to him, the king’s eunuch’s arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet Esther had prepared.

The Thought

We have no mention in this story of how Mordecai felt being led by his enemy through the streets of Susa. But in spiritual terms what had happened was a prophetic act. Haman would be humbled and Mordecai raised to a higher position. It is interesting here that Haman’s wife, whether she knew it or not was prophesying her husband’s end. She also recognised that the Jewish people were blessed and protected by their God.

God told Abraham hundreds of years earlier that those who didn’t bless His people would suffer. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you. I will make your name great and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.” (Genesis 12:2-3)

Mordecai on the other hand, returned humbly to his position of watchman at the king’s gate. He waited there for news from Esther who was busy organising her banquet, the event that would decide whether he and all his race would live or die.

Action

Pray today for the Jewish nation, especially those who know their God and honour Him. Ask The Lord to change the hearts of those who are against them. He is the only one who can do that.

Praise God for Jesus who died for all, whatever background we come from.
