Esther – Day 18

Esther 5:1-3

On the third day, Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace in front of the king’s hall. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the hall, facing the entrance. When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the sceptre. Then the king asked “What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given to you.”

The Thought

The first words of these verses remind us of another thing that happened on the third day. The resurrection of Jesus! In fact this expression occurs more than 40 times in most translations of the Bible, some of those occasions are worth looking at and spiritual comparisons can be made.

  • On the third day Joseph sent his brothers home to bring Benjamin his youngest brother to visit. Genesis 42:18
  • On the third day God came down on Mount Sinai. Exodus 19:11-16
  • On the third day Hezekiah was healed from the sickness that was supposed to cause death. 2 Kings 20:5
  • On the third day the re-building of the temple was completed. Ezra 6:15
  • On the third day He will revive us; on the third day He will restore us, that we may live in His presence. Hosea 6:2

The battle was won on the third day after the fast for Esther. The king was touched by her beauty and bravery and what she asked for was granted. Her heart must have leapt for joy at those words, but she stayed calm and invited the King and Haman to dinner!

Action

Read some of the “third day” verses in context, and praise God for all He does in His time.

Thank Jesus for His third day resurrection giving us life because He overcame death.
