Esther – Day 14

Since the very beginning there has been an enemy trying to destroy the Jewish race. Since the time of Christ, that spirit of hatred has grown to include Christians too. In many parts of the world admitting that you are a Christian can cost you and your family your lives.

Esther 3:5-6

When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honour, he was enraged. Yet having learned who Mordecai’s people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes.

The Thought

Since the very beginning there has been an enemy trying to destroy the Jewish race. Since the time of Christ, that spirit of hatred has grown to include Christians too. In many parts of the world admitting that you are a Christian can cost you and your family your lives.

In the story of Esther, Haman’s anger stretched to hatred very quickly and he wouldn’t be satisfied with just killing the one person who irritated him, he decided to destroy the whole race! He chose his words carefully and persuaded King Xerxes that he would better to be rid of those people who “live differently”! He even tried to bribe the king by offering a large sum of money. The king refused the money but let Haman go ahead with his plans. It took nearly a whole year to plan the event.

Action

Read chapter 3 of Esther today and ask yourself what you would do if you were in such a life threatening situation. There are many who believe that very soon a similar thing will happen to Christians world wide. The devil has always hated the people of God and will try right to the end to destroy them. There is much opposition today to those who stand up for their faith, and it seems that it will worsen during the next few years.

Ask the Lord to strengthen you and other Christians that you know, and to prepare you for any time of trial that might be coming.
