Esther – Day 12

We know very little about Esther as queen, but it does sound as though she used her position well. It is obvious Mordecai spent a lot of time at the gate of the king. And quite often he seems to have been there at just the right moments. God moments!

Esther 2:21-22

During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana and Terest, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king giving credit to Mordecai. And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were impaled on poles. All this was recorded in the annals in the presence of the king.

The Thought

We know very little about Esther’s time as queen, but it sounds as though she used her position well.

Mordecai was always there to feed her important information. It is obvious he spent a lot of time at the gate of the king, listening to discussions, overhearing different plans. And quite often he seems to have been there at just the right moments. God moments!

One of the interesting things about this part of Esther’s story, is that this event seems to have passed almost unnoticed. Except that it was recorded in the history books of the time. But God remembered. (He forgets nothing!) And He brought it back into the limelight later on (Chapter 6).

Both the Old and New Testaments tell us that there are books in heaven which will be opened on judgement day (Daniel 7:10, Revelation 20:12)! Everything we have ever done is recorded in those books. A scary thought!

Action

Praise God for the times, like Mordecai, when you have been in the right place at the right moment.

Imagine the court scene on judgement day, when “anyone whose name is not written in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14-15).

Pray for those you know who are not yet believers. Pray that they may recognise Jesus while they are still on the earth.
