Esther – Day 11

We are not surprised by this turn of events for Esther. This feast makes me reminisce about royal weddings I have seen on TV or read about in the press. Journalists will take time to explain exactly what is happening and to describe clothes and the delicacies of the banquets.

Esther 2:17-18

Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favour more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. And the king gave a great banquet, Esther’s banquet, for all his nobles and officials. He proclaimed a holiday throughout the provinces and distributed gifts with royal liberality.

The Thought

We are not surprised by this turn of events. After all Esther is the heroine, that is obvious to all, even if we have never read to the end of this short Biblical book!

This feast makes me reminisce about royal weddings I have seen on TV or read about in the press. Journalists will take time to explain exactly what is happening and to describe the clothes and the delicacies of the banquets.

This was no different to some of those! King Xerxes was happy again and wanted the world to know it. He responded with generosity.

That expression makes me think of Jesus who gives generously to all who ask, and Father God also gives, even before we ask (Hebrews 2:4, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11).

Generosity is a gift in itself and we have a huge example to follow in Jesus who gave His life for each one of us.

Action

Thank Jesus today for giving His life for you. Thank Him too for all we can learn from the life He lived.

Ask Him if He needs you to be more generous, and where to give what He asks you to give. We live in a very needy world.

Praise God for the challenges He is giving to you as you read the details in Esther’s story. Praise Him that each verse has something important for us to learn.
