Creation – Day 27
God really did create so much more than we have yet experienced. And in Isaiah 40 we see something of His defence and praise of Himself, as well as His continued tirade against idol worship. In the ten commandments God was very specific about NOT making images to worship.
Isaiah 40:26
Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
The Thought
As I read this verse I am reminded of a visit to friends in South Africa where the sky at night is different to the sky in the same season in the northern hemisphere. We were privileged to stay with André who was an enthusiastic sky watcher and had his own top quality telescope. What we could see through that instrument was so amazing that many years on I have not forgotten it. We could see constellations with different colours, really looking like jewels shining in the darkness. It was beautiful!!
God really did create so much more than we have yet experienced. And in Isaiah 40 we see something of His defence and praise of Himself, as well as His continued tirade against idol worship. It seems as though the Israelites were constantly creating idols to worship and God was never pleased with that. In the ten commandments given to Moses God was very specific about NOT making images to worship (Exodus 20:4-5).
Here in our verse for today, God was asking His people to lift their eyes from themselves and their problems and look to Him, The Creator of Heaven and Earth for help and answers. He is encouraging us to do the same.
Action
Read Isaiah 40 from verse 12 today. Take time to think about the things God has created that we cannot see with our earthly eyes.
Take time to appreciate creation and give God the glory for all He has made. Remember that none of it happened by accident!
