Commandments – Day 26

Leviticus 18:24

Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.

The Thought

The rarely read book of Leviticus includes a lot of details concerning the laws which God gave to Moses, and which Moses recounted to the Israelites. There must have been much heart searching after listening to the long lists of “do-nots”! I can imagine too, that there were more than a few guilty consciences, much weeping and confession of sins.

The point was that The Lord was looking for a Holy People.

He is still looking for a Holy People! Be holy because I The Lord your God am holy says the Lord (Leviticus 19:2).

In the following chapters God declares Himself to be a Holy God who is the only One who can make His followers holy (Leviticus 21:8 & 22:32).

The Israelites spent a lot of time in the desert over long periods of time with not a lot to do except walk. God used that time to create a new generation. A holy generation who would not be contaminated by the sins of Egypt. The first group of desert wanderers must have been so used to these sins of Egypt that they were accepted as “normal” by those who had lived close to their oppressors.

Today’s verse is the abbreviated version of the whole book of Leviticus. Many sins had already been named, and others were to follow.

Action

Read Leviticus 18 today and pray for your immediate family, your extended family (whether you know them or not), your church family, your area and your nation!

There is much need of repentance and revival today both inside and outside the groups known as “the church”!

Rejoice that God’s heart is still the same. He is still a forgiving Father who wants the very best for all His children.
