Commandments – Day 10

Exodus 20:14

You shall not commit adultery.

The Thought

If anyone contemplating falling into this sin had really understood what Adam said about Eve, on first seeing her, and what was written about physical unity between male and female, they would think twice about falling into the devil’s trap!

The man said “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman for she was taken out of man. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united with his wife and they become one flesh. – Genesis 2:23-24.

Eve was born of Adam! In the first surgical operation on the earth, Adam had a rib removed in order for his wife to be formed. Ever since that day, each male has been searching, and thankfully, in most cases finding, the rib designed to fit his body!

Sexual unity means that they become one flesh.

Tragically things have gone wrong for too many people. And the couple meant to be together have not found each other. Consequently other partners have got involved in the equation becoming “one” with somebody else who was maybe not designed for them, and who could well have already become one with other partners!

Please understand that I am not condemning second marriages. I know of many couples who are very happy and extremely blessed. But I honestly believe God condemned unfaithfulness in his “one flesh” plan from the beginning!

Action

Pray today for those you know who are on a second or third marriage. Pray for forgiveness where needed. And for God to bless and guide them from this day on.

If you know anyone who is living today in an adulterous situation, pray for them to find The Lord. Pray that they receive His forgiveness and His blessing.

We read Matthew 5 yesterday. So today let us concentrate on these hard verses. You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. (Matthew 5:27-29).
