The closing verse of the whole book of psalms gives us a very short command. The noise of our natural world is much more varied than we think, and many things that do not have breath can be heard to make noise too, and seem to be praising the Lord.
When it is time to praise The Lord, it is not something we should be doing quietly according to the verses today! We are called to make a noise. For most of us, that is not something we can do without movement, and all of us are encouraged to dance.
The greatest thing God ever did was in creating His Son to be born for us and to die for us! Between those two events were 30 years of demonstrations of power and wise teaching. Whatever problems you are going through today, Jesus experienced similar things during His earthly life.
The first and last words of this psalm are Praise the Lord. That expression in Hebrew is Hallelu Yah. It seems appropriate that the last of the psalms is one of praise, and a short one. What more is there to say than Hallelujah whatever circumstances we are living through.
Some people think that we can only sing God songs in a Holy place: a church or chapel! That idea is crazy. The word sing or singing appears over 150 times in our Bibles, never with any conditions other than letting us know that God is worthy of our praises!
We were created to sing His praises! That should be so easy to do. How sad that too many of us get too busy to even give Him a thought during our day. Maybe to sing for joy on our beds would be a good way to start each day!
For many generations, the Israelites wandered in the desert alternatively rejoicing because God had done great things for them, or complaining because they were suffering! They eventually settled in their promised land but once more became unhappy and asked God for an earthly king, that is when Saul was chosen.
After the Israelites had escaped from Egypt by crossing the Red Sea and seen Pharaoh and his army drown in the sea that had parted for the people of God, Moses sang a spontaneous song of praise. At the end his sister Miriam took a tambourine and began to dance.
Our God, creator of all, is the most highly exalted of all deities. In fact He is the only real deity, the others are pretenders trying to steal His throne! Satan thought he had won when Jesus went to the cross, and so was planning to take over the world.
