Babies and Children – Day 9
This chapter gives us the amazing account of how God planned to rescue His people from this slavery. The mother of Moses hid her baby son for 3 months then prepared a floating basket for him. This God inspired idea was the beginning of His plan to save His nation.
Exodus 2:1-2
Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.
The Thought
The book of Genesis finishes with the death of Joseph aged 110 years (Genesis 50:26), after successfully being reunited with his family. Consequent generations of Israelites living in Egypt multiplied greatly (Exodus 1:7).
The new king of Egypt then began to panic that there were beginning to be too many of them. He made a plan to wear them down through slavery and harsh labour (Exodus 2:8-14). That didn’t have too much effect, so the Egyptian king tried to persuade the midwives to kill baby boys at birth (Exodus 1:15-16)! But we read in the following verse that the midwives were believers and didn’t obey him. The Israelites grew in number and Pharaoh’s despair made him command the death of every Hebrew boy (Exodus 1:22)!
The following chapter gives us the beginning of the amazing account of how God planned to rescue His people from this slavery. Moses’ mother hid her baby son for 3 months then prepared a floating basket for him. This God inspired idea was the beginning of His plan to save His nation.
Action
Read Exodus 2:1-10 today and rejoice in God’s longterm plans for His people. He planned Moses’ birth, and rescue from the Nile by, of all people, Pharaoh’s daughter!
Imagine God inspiring Pharaoh’s daughter to go to bathe at exactly the moment that Moses floated by in his crib! Imagine Moses’s sister being brave enough to speak to the one who was to rescue the saviour of her race!
Praise God that He still has good plans for His people all over the world, including the Israelites today. Pray that demonic forces will not succeed in hindering those plans for you, your family and all you care for.
