Babies and Children – Day 31
After the death of her parents, Esther was still young and was adopted and brought up by a cousin, Mordecai. He was the third generation living in Babylon since the exile. We suppose that Mordecai had no other family, and he educated Esther in the things that he knew about.
Esther 4:14
Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?
The Thought
We only know a small part of Esther’s story. But what we know can be an encouragement to many people today who have been adopted. Maybe because they were not wanted, or have lost their parents through war, or famine or accident. Many children in those categories find themselves living in a foreign land as Esther did.
After the death of both her parents, Esther was still young and was adopted and brought up by a cousin, Mordecai. He was the third generation living in Babylon since the exile. We suppose that Mordecai had no other family, and he educated Esther in the things that he knew about. Consequently, she was well educated, and not afraid of speaking to men as many girls of her age would be. Neither of them knew it at the time, but this little girl was destined to be Queen over 127 provinces from India to the upper Nile region (Esther 1:1).
All over the world today in all classes of society, there are adopted children who have suffered from rejection, from being refugees, or from being poverty stricken. God loves each one and has a plan for their lives.
Action
Pray today for children who are in institutions waiting to be adopted. Pray for any adopted children that you know. Thank God that He has an amazing plan for each one, and pray for the fulfilment of those plans.
Read some of Esther’s short story today (Only 10 short chapters!).
Think seriously about your own place in society, whether you see it as important or not, and know in your heart of hearts that God has put you there for such a time as this!
Pray for God’s will for your life to be accomplished in the new year.
