Psalm 119 – Day 25
ע Ayin
Psalm 119:121-128
I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors. Ensure Your servant’s well-being; do not let the arrogant oppress me. My eyes fail, looking for Your salvation, looking for Your righteous promise. Deal with Your servant according to Your love and teach me Your decrees. I am Your servant; give me discernment that I may understand Your statutes. It is time for You to act, Lord; Your law is being broken. Because I love Your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, And because I consider all Your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.
The Thought
Eleven times in this short passage, we find the word Your!
David is really focusing on the character of God, as his Master, the Law-maker and his Saviour. His life as king was far from easy, and in every frustration and difficult situation he turned to the Lord, asking Him to deal with whatever he was facing.
He had spent much of his life being criticised, often by those who should have loved him. His brothers thought he was crazy when he volunteered to go and kill Goliath (1 Samuel 17).
Later on when David decided it was time to bring the ark of the covenant back to its real home, his wife Michal who was daughter of King Saul was not happy (2 Samuel 6:16)!
Action
Think today about your personal relationship with God. Do you think of Him as Father, Friend, Counsellor, or somebody much more distant than that?
Do you dance before Him as David did? Ask yourself why or why not today.
There are many Christian communities in our day where we can find people dancing during the worship. What is your opinion of that? Do you feel tempted to join them because you know Jesus has done great things for you? Or do you think it is not appropriate in church?
Ask yourself why you think as you do.
