Psalms 146-150 – Day 31

Psalm 150:6

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

The Thought

The closing verse of the whole book of psalms gives us a very short command. Not just for us humans, but for the whole of the natural world. All living creatures who breathe make different sounds. The birds sing, and the insects buzz, while farm animals and household pets each have their own recognisable sound. But the noise of our natural world is much more varied than we think, and hear during our daily busyness, and many things that do not “have breath” can be heard to make noise too, and seem to be praising the Lord.

Modern science and technology are now capable of detecting sounds that our human ears cannot hear, and in recent years they have discovered that planets in outer space each have a different sound, as do flowers and trees!

What an amazing creation God prepared for us, and it is right that our reaction should be, as this verse today suggests, to praise the Lord.

Everything that has breath does include the animal kingdom, and many pet lovers will say that they wish they could understand the sounds their cats, dogs and birds make. Each creature has its own language.

Action

Praise God again today for His amazing creation, and for developments in modern technology that make hidden sounds available for us all to hear.

Read slowly through Psalms 146-150 which we have looked at this month and be blessed. Be encouraged too to make praising God a more important part of your daily routine.

Do an internet search for the noise of things we don’t hear with our natural ears such as singing whales, or the noises of different planets and be encouraged to praise our amazing creator.
