Psalms 146-150 – Day 22
These 6 verses from Psalm 148 give us a list of created things, confirming that God created them. This whole psalm (148) is a song of praise for creation, beginning with an encouragement for the heavenly bodies and residents to continue their praise, then moving on to the earthly creation.
Psalm 148:7-12
Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do His bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and women, old men and children.
The Thought
These 6 verses give us a list of created things, confirming that God created them, and giving Him glory for the huge variety contained in that creation. It is as though the psalmist had a vision of creation and that as each new species or object came into being, he sensed God’s pleasure, but was thoroughly awe struck by everything he saw. He also understood that each created being or object had the capacity to sing. Maybe the writer’s ears were opened to hear what each new creature was singing.
This whole psalm is a song of praise for creation, beginning with an encouragement for the heavenly bodies and residents to continue their praise, then moving on to the earthly creation.
Later in our Bibles God speaks of a future time when He will make a new creation (Isaiah 65:17, 66:22, 2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21:1).
Action
Read some of those verses today and think about the enormous variety of God’s creation. Praise Him for every part of that creation. The simple word “animal” covers everything from an elephant to an ant. The water dwellers include tadpoles and whales. The flying things include eagles and very small humming birds.
Ask yourself if you are bothered by stormy winds that do His bidding. Does The Lord send those winds in order to cause destruction?
Pray for the people you know to have their eyes opened to recognize the creator of the world and give Him praise.
