Psalms 146-150 – Day 12

The first sentence above, is a command throughout the Bible to the people of God, anytime, anywhere. Most church services all over the world begin with songs of praise, because we have much to thank Him for. Just who He is as well as what He does for His people.

Psalm 147:7-9

Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp. He covers the sky with clouds; He supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.

The Thought

The first sentence above (verse7 of this psalm), is a command throughout the Bible to God’s people, anytime, anywhere. Most church services all over the world begin with songs of praise, because we have much to thank Him for. Just who He is as well as what He does for His people.

Often in the Old Testament singing to the Lord was a reaction to something amazing He had done for the early Jewish nation. One of the best examples of that is after the Israelites had crossed the Red Sea escaping the Egyptians, but Pharaoh and his army were in hot pursuit. A scary moment, and a miraculous one!

God’s people crossed on dry land, but Pharaoh and his men were drowned. Moses and the Israelites sang to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. Both horse and rider he has hurled into the sea” (Exodus 15:1). That must have been an amazing thing to watch, and it certainly chased away all fear from the Israelites!

The other two verses quoted above from Psalm 147 are in themselves a song of praise proclaiming what God does for His creation. He has never changed, and He still does the same. It is tragic that the inventions of man have often polluted God’s world.

Action

Read the song of Moses and his sister Miriam in Exodus 15, and be reminded again that God loves His people and does all He can, right up to the last minute to save them from the enemy, whoever that might be.
