Mysteries and Secrets – Day 8

Some people love to solve mysteries, the more complicated the better! And for many the Bible is a mystery, God is a mystery. Our reaction can be: God is a mystery, we can never understand Him. Or: I need to spend time and think about this mystery: Who is God?

Romans 16:25

Now to Him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past…

The Thought

In his closing sentence in the letter to the church in Rome, Paul dedicates his letter and the Roman church to the only wise God (v27). Paul was happy to have solved the mystery of who Jesus is, and was equally happy to be sharing his knowledge of the Lord with the people he wrote to.

After his dramatic conversion when Paul was recovering from his blindness and his stupidity in trying to fight Almighty God, he received many truths about Jesus, and began to understand many of the “mysteries” surrounding Him. The Greek word for mystery used in this verse is translated differently in 1 Timothy 3:9, where we read of Paul speaking about church leaders under the pastor Timothy. They must keep hold of the deep truths (mysteries) of the faith with a clear conscience.

Some people love to solve mysteries, the more complicated the better! And for many today the Bible is a mystery, God too is a mystery. Our reaction can be “God is a mystery, we can never understand Him” or our reaction can be “I need to spend time and think (pray) about this mystery of Who is God?”!

Action

Think today of your own reaction to mysteries. Do you like mystery puzzles? If not why not?

No matter how well we know Jesus, how often we talk to Him (pray), there is still more to know.

Read slowly and repeatedly Romans 16:25-27 today, and ask God to reveal to you some of the mysteries you see in the scriptures.
