Remembering – Day 29

This verse is a good one to think about on the day we remember that Jesus died for you and me so that the former things can be forgotten. He changed the world in a way no other person has ever done. He gave us the ultimate example of forgiveness.

Isaiah 43:18

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.

The Thought

Today is Good Friday when many across the world will fast and pray remembering that Jesus went to the cross for us.

The short verse today is a good one to think about on the day we remember that Jesus died for you and me so that the former things can be forgotten. He changed the world in a way no other person has ever done. He gave us the ultimate example of forgiveness.

According to some translations of the Lord’s prayer, receiving forgiveness from God could be conditional on our forgiveness of others (Matthew 6:12). That is a scary thought, so we need to keep working on forgiving!

In this chapter of Isaiah, the prophet is telling us, as he told the Israelites, that it is time for a new beginning. In their case the people of Israel were thinking about all that had happened to their ancestors; how they had escaped from being slaves in Egypt, the miracle of crossing the sea on dry land. In fact they were living in the past, and not appreciating the new land they were living in.

Isaiah’s long prophecy was telling His people that they were not forgotten (Isaiah 43:1-7, 44:1-5).

There was a great future ahead of them with the promise of the Messiah.

Action

Read one or both those chapters from Isaiah today and be encouraged that God had a plan for His people right from the beginning, and He still has a plan which includes you and me today. That’s why Jesus went to the cross.

We are living in exciting times, even though they are worrying times too, and looking at the world through the media does not encourage us that all is well!

Think of Christ’s sacrifice today and be encouraged that His plan has not been abandoned.
