Haggai – Day 13

Haggai 1:14-15

So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God, on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius.

The Thought

God wanted something doing, and He knew who He wanted on His team. So He stirred up the spirit of those people. Many of us remember when we were baby Christians having our spirits stirred up by God’s spirit. Maybe when we were just learning to pray out loud or speak out in a meeting. Maybe when we were touched by some small point in a message being given from the front of church.

When that happens, we know that we must do what God is calling us to do, we will not be comfortable until we have obeyed that still small voice. Whether we are young believers of experienced prayers, Holy Spirit can move us to tears, or make us tremble at His voice, and we know in our heart of hearts, that we must obey.

That is what Zerubbabel and Joshua experienced at the beginning of this project to repair the temple. In fact God stirred up the spirit of the whole remnant of the people, and He chose those who would be responsible for the project.

Action

Pray today about any project the Lord might be wanting to give you. There is always much to do for His Kingdom.

Is it time to volunteer for something you have been feeling you could do, or something you see that needs doing in your community, whether church, school or other organisation?
