Nehemiah – Day 17

Nehemiah 4:4-5

Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders.

Please note: in some Bibles this passage can be found at the end of the previous chapter.

The Thought

This is a hard hearted prayer from Nehemiah, but it had to be. The enemy was determined to stop the building, and Nehemiah didn’t want his fellow workers depressed or weakened in any way. Listening to the enemy weakens our faith and makes us think like the world.

Today that same enemy is trying to stop the building of God’s spiritual kingdom on the earth, in much the same way. He is reminding us that God’s word says that we should love everybody, and we should. But in satan’s eyes that means accepting things we should not accept. His idea of love is not the same as God’s idea of love!

The way to combat satan is in prayer and by knowing what God has said. For Nehemiah, God had said “Build the wall and restore the gates”.

Do you know what God says about abortion and about homosexuality? They seem to be the “big” subjects in our world at the moment. God’s opinions can be found clearly in the following verses; (Psalms 119:73 & 139:13) (Leviticus 18:22 & 1 Timothy 1:9-11).

Our response as Christians is not to judge people that are guilty of these things today, but to pray and to speak to them of The Lord who loves them and wants to heal them of past hurts and where they have lacked love in their families or upbringing.

Action

Remember today that God tells us not to judge, but to love and forgive in His Name.

We must turn to Him in prayer concerning everything that touches our lives.

Read the Bible verses above and pray for those you know or have heard about who need to see the Lord’s perspective on these subjects.
