Nehemiah – Day 11

Nehemiah 2:12 & 16

I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on.
The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, because as yet I had said nothing to the Jews or the priests or nobles or officials or any others who would be doing the work.

The Thought

After resting from his journey for three days and discussing his ideas with a few trusted people, Nehemiah set off on his first “secret” mission. To actually look at what needed doing, and to make his plans about how to proceed.

Sometimes we have to keep secret what God has told us to do, because we have no idea who can be used by satan to ruin our plans or our mission.

In today’s terms I see Nehemiah as the leader of a small prayer group who spends time listening to the Lord, and then obeying what He tells them to do. My husband and I have experienced that in the past and have been on many “secret missions” from the Lord when people we met just thought we were English tourists in France or other countries! Life with The Lord can be interesting and is often exciting!!

Action

Spend time with the Lord today asking yourself, (and Him), if you would be ready to go, like Nehemiah, on a mission for the Lord. Remember that the Bible does not tell us that Nehemiah was an expert builder, or team leader. God equipped him as he was obedient.

Dare to ask Jesus if there is a specific mission He has for you. It may be very near home or it may be in another country. Are you ready to go?
