30 Thoughts prompted by Bones 1-3

30 Thoughts prompted by Bones

The Bible seems to have quite a lot to say on any subject you can think of, and I am having fun discovering the more unusual subjects. There are one or two references to bones in the Bible that have always fascinated me, so I decided to see what else there was that might be interesting. I was amazed at the truths I discovered using this seemingly insignificant word.
Sometimes I was unexpectedly challenged by my understanding of a particular verse. Sometimes the verses made me smile, sometimes they drove me quickly to prayer. Always they blessed me, I hope you enjoy and learn from this study, as I have done.
I will be posting 3 thoughts 3 times per week. Be sure to bookmark this site and check back regularly for new studies.

Thought 1

Genesis 2:23

The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, ‘for she was taken out of man.

The first mention of bones in the Bible, and God gives us the separation of man and woman, and the next verse tells of the eternal desire for each other which began at this point in history. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The key for a successful marriage is right here. Each of us must separate ourselves from our parents, through whom our bones were created, and be in union with our partner of the opposite sex for whom we were created. Becoming one with your mate is a spiritual thing as well as a physical thing, and was destined by God from the beginning of time. Those of us who are called to be single need to understand that we are one with Jesus, and one day we will all be part of that glorious Bride.

Pray for a separation from previous generations, and a joining in perfect unity with the one for whom you have been created. If you are not married, then pray for those around you that are. Pray for healthy relationships for yourself.

Praise God for His design for marriage, and for all it represents for Christians in our relationship with the Bridegroom.

Thought 2

2 Kings 13:21

Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.

What in this situation do you find most scary? The raiders? The dead man coming to life? The thought that Elisha still has power after death? It must be one of the shortest stories in the Bible, and one of the most mysterious. While Elisha was alive he raised people from the dead, and this story shows us that his particular anointing didn’t die! What does that mean for us today? If being thrown into the tomb of a dead man could bring someone back to life, how much more if we “go into” the tomb of Jesus and find that He is no longer there, that His anointing has raised Him from the dead and can do the same for us. Let’s rejoice today in the truth that we can live and not die.

Pray for the resurrection life of Jesus to be evident in your life and that of your church today.

Praise God that his power and anointing is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Thought 3

Exodus 12:46

It (The Pascal Lamb) must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.

The Lord was very specific about the eating of the Lamb that night before the Exodus. Do you wonder if the details of the instructions irritated the Israelites, or do you think they were so excited or panicked about leaving that they were very particular about following the instructions to the letter? What about you today? Do you need to put more importance on following the Lord’s instructions exactly. Take a look at the commandments today (Exodus 20) and see how you are doing.

Remember that this is the first prophecy for Jesus on the cross when “none of His bones were broken“. (Num. 9:12; Psalm 34:20; John 19:36)

Pray for the Lord to help you understand the importance of detail.

Praise God that He takes care of the details in everything, and that His plan for Jesus being the Pascal Lamb was there in the beginning.
