1 John – Day 6

1 John 2:4-6

Whoever says, “I know Him,” but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in them. But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. … Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.

The Thought

These verses challenge me to examine my life once more.

Do I really live as Jesus did? The short answer is “No!” I don’t wear a long robe and sandals, I don’t challenge church leaders about their way of life. I don’t heal the sick everywhere I go. But is that really what this verse means?

Jesus did only what He saw The Father doing (John 5:19). He never left that parental communion. I do not expect to get to the point where I do only what I see Father God doing, but I do pray to arrive at the point when I will do only what God approves of, and not get stuck in my own stubborn ways and carried away by my own ideas.

It is too easy for us to think we know what God is saying and form a pattern for ourselves so that we get stuck in a rut of always doing it that way.

Jesus had so many different ways of healing people. Sometimes He just spoke to them, sometimes He cast demons out of them. Sometimes He just told another person to go and find that a servant is healed. Once (that we read about) He bathed an eye with His spit!

Life with Jesus was never boring, and that’s how we should be living. Lives of variety, full lives lead by Holy Spirit, with ideas that come from reading His Word.

Action

Pray today that you will have a day living “more like Jesus”; rejecting no-one, blessing those you meet, and keeping an ear open to what Father God might be saying to you.
