1 John – Day 4

1 John 1:7-8

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

The Thought

John is clear about Jesus’ invitation to walk “in the light” together as well as individually. Community is a good thing. We share ideas, we learn from each other, and we help each other stay on the right path.

Throughout the generations the enemy has tried hard to break up families, and churches. In the Christian world there should be no room for “If I am not happy, I move on. I make my own choices, and decisions. I know what is right for me.”

The consequences of Eve feeling that way are still felt across the globe.

Living in community, one with another, as very close families, or more distant in groups who meet weekly or fortnightly, is always a blessing. Having others close by who have similar Biblical priorities to help us along the right way, can only help to make the Kingdom of God grow on earth.

The “Jesus communities” or “churches” help us to advance with God. They help us to know Jesus better, and to recognise sin in our own lives. Their aim is not to make us feel guilty, or ashamed, but to lead us into the saving grace offered by Jesus, who suffered the consequences of sin in all people for all time. How amazing is that?

We don’t have to make atonement, Jesus did it.

We don’t have to pray long prayers. Jesus said “Father forgive them”. That’s all that was needed.

Action

Pray today for those you are in fellowship with, that you will all grow in faith and walk more and more in The Light together.

Read the first chapter of John’s 1st letter slowly and be blessed.
