1 John – Day 3

1 John 1:5-6

God is Light, in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him, yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

The Thought

John, in these verses, is helping us to understand the complete opposites of life with Jesus and life in the hands of the devil.

God created light on the earth at the beginning of time, and He still wants us to live in that light. This is nothing to do with the sun which was not created until the 6th day. This was and is a spiritual light that makes us aware of His presence. As we grow in our faith, and we understand Jesus more, allowing His presence in our lives, we will reflect this spiritual light.

In John 8:12 we read of Jesus saying “I am the Light of the world”, and we can appreciate that. But remember, too, that speaking to the multitudes on the mountain, he said to the crowds “You are the light of the world”! (Matthew 5:14)

If we “walk in the light” with Jesus, we will attract others to that light. We will become aware of the wrong ideas we have had.

Many of the activities for relaxation in our day are based on devilish spiritual practices. They are birthed in darkness, not light.

Action

Do you know people who “glow” because of their faith in Jesus?

If you are outside your home today look at the people in the street, at the market, in the office. Do their eyes shine with “the light of life”? Do they have a “presence” that speaks peace to you?

Ask yourself too what people see in your mannerisms, in your smile or frown.

Ask Jesus to show you if any activity you do is not pleasing to Him.
