1 John – Day 27
Overcoming the world is a huge challenge. Ask yourself today if you really believe in your heart that Jesus is The Only Son of God, living in you by His Spirit. If the answer is yes, then challenge yourself to use His power working through you to overcome the world.
1 John 5:4-6
… for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. This is the one who came by water and blood — Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
The Thought
These verses give us the clues to surviving every challenge we might face. Faith is the answer: Real active faith in Jesus as the Son of God.
Water refers to Jesus’ baptism when He set the example for us, and when those around heard the audible voice of His Heavenly Father and saw Holy Spirit descend on Him like a dove Matthew 3:13-17. That must have been a life changing moment for many!
Overcoming the world is a huge challenge, way beyond the way most of us live our daily lives. But that is what God expects of us as believers. It is what Jesus did at the cross (the reference to blood in the verses today) and before His ascension He gave His followers (you and me), the power to bring victory in every demonic situation, once we have been baptised in His Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8
Action
Ask yourself today if you really believe in your heart that Jesus is The Only Son of God, and is living in you by His Spirit. If the answer is “yes”, then challenge yourself to use His power working through you to “overcome the world”.
As we pray for the sick and see them healed, we are overcoming the world. As we witness to others and introduce them to Jesus we are overcoming the world. Challenge yourself to do that today.
