THE HELMET OF SALVATION (Ephesians 6:17)

What does the word “salvation” mean for you?

The name “Jesus” or “Yeshua” means “He shall save”, and is an adaptation of Joshua which means “Yahweh is salvation”.

Do you and I need salvation?

Why?

What did the Jewish people need saving from or for?

Reading the following verses in context explains the whys and wherefores…

  • Isaiah 38:20
  • Jeremiah 30:7
  • 2 Samuel 3:18
  • Ezekiel 34:22
  • Exodus 14:13

Does reading those verses in context help you define salvation more clearly?

Why do you think salvation is a helmet in the armour of God we are thinking about?

  • Isaiah 59:17 and 1 Thessalonians 5:8 also speak of salvation as a helmet.

Read these verses in context and discuss them from a “Spiritual warfare” angle.

In all of this we have to remember that Salvation only comes through Jesus Christ, people are either saved or not saved, there is no in between category.

  • Read Hebrews 10:39

Will you be one who shrinks back and is destroyed?

What can we do about those we love who don’t believe in Jesus?

The words “Salvation” and “Saved” both appear in the Bible over 100 times, can you find some that might help you understand the importance of telling others about Jesus?

If Salvation is a gift from Jesus, how should we interpret the following verses?

  • 1 Peter 2:1-3
  • Philippians 2:12

Pray now for some of the people you know who need salvation in Jesus’ name, and for those you know who need to mature in their salvation.

Use some of the Spiritual Warfare tactics you have learned about…

  • Bind the enemy (Matthew 18:18)
  • Take thoughts captive for Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)
  • Pray Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians (Ephesians 3:14-19)

EXPECT RESULTS, and praise God when they happen.

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT (EPHESIANS 6:17)

When did Jesus use the Sword of The Spirit to fight satan?

What sword is Jesus referring to in Matthew 10:34?

Read Hebrews 4:12, then answer or think about the following things…

  • What is the difference between “living” and “active”?
  • Why a 2 edged sword?
  • Why would anyone want to “divide spirit and soul”?
  • Why would anyone want to “divide joints and marrow”?
  • What is the difference between “thoughts” and “attitudes”?

For a picture of the sword as “The Word of God” read Revelation 1:16.

Take time during the coming days to notice how often you use your tongue as a 2 edged sword speaking the Word of God, and how often you use it for the enemy.

If you have made notes all the way through this study, look back at some of the things you noted when we looked at “Proclamation”, “Praise”, and also “Blessings and Curses”.
