Jonah – Day 11

Jonah 2:5

The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.

The Thought

This must have been the worst moment of the life of Jonah. He was inside a fish, not knowing if he would ever get out. He could do nothing to help himself and must have been overcome with remorse. But nothing in this chapter implies that he regretted his rebellion.

Things could not get much worse. He was suffering from the sea, the seaweed and the fish, (maybe also some remorse at his disobedience!). What do these things, the storm, the seaweed and the fish represent for you today? Problems of finance, family, relationship, job, health?

Jonah’s problems did not come one at a time and fit into nice little categories. He was obviously overwhelmed, and realised that he could do absolutely nothing to save himself. David was often in that situation, and many of his psalms refer to times of difficulty that the Lord has helped him through. Psalm 103:2-5 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits, – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.”

Often our loving Father allows us to get to that place where we feel there is no way out, so that He can do something miraculous, and get ALL the glory.

Action

Praise Father God that nothing is impossible for Him.

Praise Him that He knows the way out of every problem you are facing right now.

Read Psalm 103 today and rejoice with David’s words.

Pray for others you know who are facing seemingly impossible situations.
