Mysteries and Secrets – Day 17

Ephesians 6:19-20

Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

The Thought

Almost at the end of Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus he asks for prayer for himself. This once proud ambassador for Judaism has become a humble ambassador for Jesus!

Paul’s prayer was answered, not just for what he said, but also for what he wrote. He could not have imagined how his letters would go all over the world being translated into almost every language. He would not have understood if he had been told that films would be made about his ministry, and that in some places, two millennium after his death arguments would still be going on about some of the things he said!

The first part of this verse is a prayer that most of us could use, not just because we are giving sermons, speaking in churches, teaching groups, or leading youth but in ALL our conversations. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak…. We need God to keep a hand on what we say, so that we will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel. That includes conversations at work, at the sports centre, or the supermarket.

Action

Pray today for your everyday conversations, that they will be honouring to The Lord, but also that they will have an effect on those who listen and any who overhear. Pray too for a deeper understanding of the mystery of the gospel.

Read Ephesians 6 and see yourself wearing that armour so that all your body is protected by Holy Spirit.

Pray for pastors and preachers in your area, to be bold in speaking out what God is saying in our day.
