Mysteries and Secrets – Day 14

1 Corinthians 14:24-25

But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”

The Thought

In this long chapter Paul is trying to help his readers understand some of the gifts of The Spirit. Many sermons have been given on this subject throughout the centuries, some good, some bad. Even today some pastors and priests can be heard to say that the gift of tongues was only for the apostles. Others say that tongues is a language of the devil!

In this chapter Paul makes everything clear. A message in tongues is aimed at believers, a prophetic message is for non-believers. Simply because “believers” understand the things of the spirit and will know in their own spirits what is being said, and whether it concerns them or not. A prophetic word, on the other hand, can be more clearly understood and if it concerns someone listening then that person will be convinced in their heart, that God is real.

It seems very simple, why has the church made it so complicated?

Too often our church meetings don’t allow time for God to speak at all, we have our routines, and we watch the clock, and not much time is given to Holy Spirit to speak. How sad!

Action

Read 1 Corinthians 14 today and ask yourself how much of what Paul says, you have experienced.

Pray today for your church group to understand better the things of Holy Spirit. Take special note of the first verse in this chapter: Follow the way of love! Pray for more love of Jesus and of each other to be evident among your church members.
