Habakkuk – Day 6
The prophet cannot believe what he is hearing. He knows without any doubt who God is and all He can do, but he does not understand what God is doing, and why He will allow such wickedness. Many of us feel like that today when we look at the world.
Habakkuk 1:12-13
Lord, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die. You, Lord, have appointed them to execute judgment; You, my Rock, have ordained them to punish. Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; You cannot tolerate wrongdoing.
Why then do you tolerate the treacherous?
Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
The Thought
These verses are the beginning of Habakkuk’s Second Complaint. The prophet cannot believe what he is hearing. He knows without any doubt who God is and all He can do, but he does not understand what God is doing, and why He will allow such wickedness. Many of us feel like that today when we look at the world around us.
We know what we would like, (and expect) God to do, forgetting that His plans are not our plans. So many of us are like Job who didn’t understand why he was suffering so much. After patiently listening to the conversations, Job’s thoughts, and the advice he was receiving from friends, God interrupted asking Who is this that obscures my plans without words of knowledge? (Job 38:2).
Then God continued with a monologue of questions and suggestions right through two chapters until Job admits that he knows nothing! (Job 40:2).
God has not changed, and would say to many of us today that He still knows what He is doing, and He still controls the universe and everything in it.
Action
Remind yourself today that Jesus and Father God are the same as they have always been, yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Pray that you can accept that concept and trust Him more to answer your prayers in His timing.
Lift up to The Lord the government leaders of all nations who need prayers at this time.
