Psalm 119 – Day 15

ט Teth

Psalm 119:65-67

Do good to your servant according to Your word, Lord. Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.

The Thought

We can read much of David’s life and make him a hero, but just like each one of us, he was far from perfect. Verse 67 of this psalm tells us that he was afflicted, as a punishment and a lesson in life.

The sin the Bible tells us about is when king David committed adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11). As if that wasn’t sin enough, once he knew that he was responsible for the pregnancy of another man’s wife, he arranged for her husband to be killed (2 Samuel 11:14-16).

It is interesting that Bathsheba then became the mother of Solomon, the son who was full of wisdom and followed David on the throne, but the last verse of the chapter says But the thing David had done displeased the Lord (2 Samuel 11:27).

Our sins still displease The Lord today, but we can always confess to Him anything we have done wrong and we can receive the forgiveness that He gained for us on the cross, where, once and for all, Jesus took ALL our guilt and shame.

Paul in his letter to the Roman church, wrote for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). He went on to explain to his readers that only through Jesus can we find redemption.

Action

Read Romans 3 and praise Jesus today for His redemption, and for opening the way to Heaven for you and all those you love. Pray for those in your family and neighbourhood that do not understand that yet.

Knowing that Jesus can use many different ways to draw us to Him, praise Him for all that He is doing that you cannot see, tell Him that you are trusting Him for everything.
